Vivo’s recently launched Y400 5G is a solid mid-range phone that aims to deliver durability, good display, and fast charging among other features. Some earlier rumors got specs wildly wrong (e.g. “220MP camera, 8000mAh battery”) — here’s what the device really brings, how it performs, and whether it’s worth the price.

What’s Different from Earlier Claims
- There is no 220 MP camera, it’s 50 MP.
- Battery is 6,000 mAh, not 8,000 mAh.
- The price is much higher than ₹12,450 — actual launch price is ~₹21,999.
Performance & User Experience
- The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip is not flagship-tier like Snapdragon 8/Dimensity top models, but it offers decent performance for daily tasks, media consumption, and moderate gaming.
- The display’s peak brightness of 1,800 nits is strong, meaning better visibility in sunlight. The 120 Hz refresh rate makes animations, scrolling, and general UI feel smoother.
- Fast charging at 90W is very good; Vivo claims reaching 50% in ~20 minutes
- With IP68 + IP69 ratings, the device should resist dust, immersion in water, and even high-pressure water jets. That adds real robustness.
Downsides / Trade-Offs
- The camera setup is modest beyond the main sensor (only depth sensor for secondary lens) — no ultra-wide or telephoto lens.
- Despite strong brightness, in very bright sunlight or HDR video content the screen could still struggle compared to true flagship panels.
- Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is efficient, but in heavy gaming or long use you may notice heating / throttling — especially when pushing high frame rates or max graphics.
- Price is not “budget” by some standards; around ₹22,000+ places it in competitive mid-range segments.
Verdict
The Vivo Y400 5G delivers solid value if you care about display quality, fast charging, and durability (water/dust resistance). It isn’t the best phone for ultra-high resolution photography, and performance for heavy tasks or gaming is good but not top tier. If you were expecting features like 220MP camera or 8000 mAh battery, those are not real for this model.
If priced around ₹22,000, its real competition includes phones with possibly better camera modules, stronger chipsets, or other perks — but Y400 5G holds its ground well in its niche.
